opportunitiesplural of op·por·tu·ni·ty (Noun)
I had the privilege of being asked to be a featured artist at Traditions Handcraft Gallery during the Cathedral Arts Festival. Marnie, the owner, set up a space in the shop with all of my work in a nice display. I also set up a small table where I was selling some of my felted bracelets. It was a great opportunity to talk to people that came into the shop about my work. I was able to also meet some new people.
To my surprise, Margaret (the festival organizer) brought Global TV into the shop and said that they would like to interview me. I was so nervous, yet very honoured. You can check out the interview here.
Well I must say I thought I would be doing a better job of posting on my blog. However life seems to of gotten in the way. I love having my iPhone, and find that I can do so much on it that I am rarely on my computer. Another reason why I haven’t blogged for awhile.
Although it seems I have been quite, I have actually been working a fair bit. I am trying to challenge myself a bit more in my felting. One of the items I thought would be fun to try, is making an article of clothing. Last summer my girlfriend in BC asked me to help her create a vest. I really had no idea how to go about it, but we plugged along and after several days she had a beautiful vest. Well I thought I would attempt this myself this time. I used some beautiful fine merino white wool, along with some silk organza pieces. I also incorporated some hand spun lambs wool my mom had given me. Once it was all felted I then tossed it into a dye bath of turquoise and blue. The final touch, a beautiful hand made wooden button!
This is available for sale at Traditions Handcraft Gallery in Regina. I will be at the gallery on May 26 during the Cathedral Arts Festival.
Well these past few weeks I have been busy in my studio when I find a few free hours. I have been working at some new product for Traditions. Marnie and her husband have taken a few weeks and renovated the gallery. I must say it looks great!! The space is so much more open, bright and the product is grouped really nice. These are my new wall pieces. They are based on paint splattered. I think they would look great in a kids room…just a suggestion!!!
I will be one of the guests on the panel for this event.

Well it’s been a few weeks since I have last posted. Work has gotten really busy as well our sports schedule has gotten a little fuller. My youngest son Jayden has taken up squash and inspired me to also learn the game. Jayden has taken a real shine to this game and so has added an extra practice session each week. Him and I have also joined the league, which means we play once a week. Add this onto my racquetball and soccer schedules, and my weeks are pretty full. I have also been volunteering for a few racquetball tournaments.
That being said, I have been able to make some scarflets lately. These are fun to make and don’t take up huge amounts of time. They are keeping me in the studio enough that I don’t totally lose my mind. They are made of merino, and silk. One has locks added and two have a nice little gem! More to come…..
I love to doodle!! My notebook at work is usually full of doodles along with notes from my meetings. I stumbled across this free online workshop with Traci Bautisa. She is an amazing mixed media artists. Well at least I think she is!! There are four weeks of lessons. At the beginning of the week she uploads a video about the technique, and then you spend the rest of the week playing!!! Here are two of my doodles from Lesson 1.
Welcome to my new website. I have been updating websites for others, in the meantime negleting mine. So I thought I would welcome in the new year with a new website!!! Thanks to Kim at ArtBiz for helping move the site over to WordPress. I am finding that I have been doing a lot of experimental work, or items for Traditions and Handwave that just don’t fit into the exhibition galleries on the site. By having a blog on my site, I thought this would be a great way to share some of these items.
